4 Harmful Muscle Building Workouts Myths Busted!

Types of muscle

Thinking of making a serious commitment to a muscle building workout? If you are taking this major step, you must first be aware of all the myths out there, and be careful of who you are listening to. If you checked online, you can see thousands of websites that are on muscle building and fitness. It is little wonder why as bodybuilding is worth billions of dollars.

Have you ever seen some of these “experts” who kept pushing and telling everyone to take expensive pills and powders in order to build muscles? There is a reason why…

They have no idea what they are talking about and are only interested in making a profit off you. If you do not do your research carefully, you may very well end up with fatal muscle building mistakes that may literally stop you from ever building a physique that you have always wanted.

Muscle Building Workouts Myth 1 : Achieving a pump during your workout is a must if you want to build muscle. Need more muscle? Then you need to achieve an even greater pump during your workout. A pump is a feeling that one get when the blood is trapped inside the muscle as one train with weights.

Soon the muscles start to swell up. When that happens, you will feel your body get bigger, tighter, stronger and even more powerful. I bet this sounds like a fantastic feeling to have. It is… But the sad truth is that a pump does nothing much to help your muscles grow!

The best way to gauge your workout is to measure your progress. A progress is made when you are able to lift more weight ( or do more reps ) than the previous week. Thus when you see some progress, you can be sure that your workouts are effective.

Muscle Building Workouts Myth 2 : You become slower and less flexible when you are building muscle. People used to describe bodybuilders as being muscular and bulky back in the old days. Now not many people know this, building large amount of lean muscles can actually help speed you up.

Every movement that you make is only possible by using your muscles. Without muscles, you cannot jump, dance, wave, run or even stand. The fact is that the stronger a muscle is, the more force it can apply. The more muscular your legs are, the more foot speed you are going to have. Similarly, when you more muscular shoulders, you can be sure that you are able to throw farther.

So, having strong muscles is equivalent to having able muscles, not the other way around.

Muscle Building Workouts Myth 3 : All exercises must be done in picture perfect form. Although maintaining good form in gym is important, obsessing over perfect form is definitely something that is not encouraged. Do you know that if you are always trying to do every exercise perfectly, then you are increasing the probability of injuring yourself? Besides, you are also reducing the amount of muscle stimulation.

When you exercise, try to move naturally instead. For example, you can add a slight sway to your back when doing your bicep curls. Or when you are doing barbell rows, you can use a bit of your body momentum. No need to be so tight up. Instead move your body naturally, as how it was supposed to move. Obsessing over perfect form will actually work against you rather than for you.

Muscle Building Workouts Myth 4 : Your muscles will only grow if you “feel the burn!”. This is another major misconception in the gym. When you do an intense weight training session, you often get this “burning” sensation. Why? This is due to the lactic acid which is a metabolic waste produced and secreted into the muscle tissues.

Muscle growth is not stimulated by lactic acids. Nor having increased levels of lactic acids help you grow muscles. In fact, it may actually slow down your gains. In order to limit the lactic acid produced, you can reduce the number of reps for your exercises. Try 5-7 reps instead.

If you want to build the body that you have always wanted, you have to stop listening to the “lies” and start training right.

I recommend using two of my favorite trainers, Vince Delmonte and Mike Geary. These guys know what they are talking about and have helped thousands of people achieve their ideal bodies through proper exercises and nutrition.
