7 Reasons Why Your Diets Are Not Working For You

Are you always trying new diets? Chances are high that you have probably tried dozens of diets and every time, you ended up not losing any weight and feeling frustrated. What’s worst is that you may have gained even more weight! Statistics have shown that over 90% of people actually gain weight as opposed to losing weight within 6 months after they start dieting!

Here are 7 reasons why your last diet did not work for you :

1. Let’s face it… Diets are all about food. Thus attention is always only on food and eating. This focus on food is definitely not the way to go as what we want is to lose weight… not to think even more about food!

2. People on diets often feel stressed and causes mood swings. In some serious cases, it may even lead to depression and this may lead to even more weight gain. Stress also creates a compulsion to eat for some people and this again will result in weight gain. Thus more often than not, weight gain is caused by emotions. Very often you see people rely on food in order to control their emotions. Feel bad? Eat a tub of ice cream to feel good… sounds familiar?

3. Going on diets actually lowers your metabolism. Your body goes into starvation mode when you severely restrict your food intake. To your body, it will think that food is scarce and in defence to protect you from starvation, it starts to store fat, slows the metabolic rate to burn less calories. This way, you body becomes more efficient in conserving calories in order to store them as fat. This equate to weight gain!

4. Most diets advocate you check your weight loss progress by the number of pounds lost. This can be grossly inaccurate as weight loss measured by pounds may be just loss of water from the body. A better way to measure your progress is by whether you feel more energized, whether you look better in your clothes and how you feel about your body.

5. There are people who went on a diet and lost weight. However, more often than not, the weight loss in the diet are temporary. What usually happens is that once you reach your goal on a diet, you tend to return to you normal eating habits! And what does this mean? You weight will start to come back!

6. Diets are usually about keeping your calories low or to avoid sugary or high energy food and drinks like soda. So you may go for diet sodas instead! Although diet sodas are low in calories, they contain phosphoric acid which increase your appetite! Besides diet soda also leaches calcium from your bones and some that contain aspartame can drain energy, strength, and stamina from your body.

7. How to lose weight and keep the weight off for good? The answer is to change your mindset. Diets, however, does not change your mindset for good. Instead, diets change only short term eating habits without changing your long term mindset about food and healthy living.

Remember this : You are what you think as your thoughts create your actions. So if your thinking and mindset is not changed about food, chances that you go back to your same old unhealthy eating habits are almost certain.

Thus think long term! Creating healthy living mindset will allow you to create the body you desire permanently.
