8 Tips for Healthy Eating On the Run

Getting fat but don’t know why? Sometimes, weight just creeps on you when you are not aware. Why? Well, simply because one of the biggest obstacles to healthy eating is a lack of time. This is the number one excuse that people give for not eating more healthily. To them, fast food is much more readily available than the healthy options and hence, they just give in to their temptation and eat poorly during their busy days. So how can you have healthy eating on the run?

But wait, there’s good news! What you may not realize is that it only takes a little bit of pre-planning to make sure you are only eating healthy meals and snacks during the day. The following are 8 tips that you can use to help you stay in shape by making the healthy choices during your busy day :

Tip 1.
This is the easy one. All you have to do is to make sure that you eat your fruits and vegetables for the day. Try to carry a couple of fruits or some sliced vegetables with you. You can keep them in your car or your office and within your reach, so that when you are feeling hungry, you can opt for these healthy choices instead of going for candy bars, cookies or other sugar laden or fatty choices. And the best part about fruits and vegetables is that many of them are extremely portable.

Tip 2.
Watch how much you are eating. Now, no matter where you eat, you have to make sure that you are always opting for the smaller, if not the smallest, size for your meal. So for example, if you have a craving for those salty French fries, then just opt for the smallest size. You get to curb your craving without
upsetting” your diet in terms of calories. In fact, this is better than totally cutting off your favorite foods at one go and then later end up binging on them!

Tip 3.
In the case of really desperate situation, where you are on the run and have no other options but fast food, do try to opt for a deli-style location. Avoid fast food drive-thru altogether if possible. It is a better choice to go for sandwiches on whole wheat or wraps with lots of veggies. They are much lower in calories and fat than what you would have found at another fast food restaurants.

Tip 4.
There are plenty of much healthier options than french fries as a side. Most restaurants now offer healthy sides which you should take advantage of. Salads are often available at almost all restaurants now and are great for keep you full without loading you with empty calories.

Tip 5.
Always opt for grilled options when they are available. Do you know that chicken that are fried or breaded that many fast food restaurants offer are super high in calories and fats? Instead, order a grilled chicken sandwich instead.

Tip 6.
How about trying to stop at a supermarket on your lunch break instead? Nowadays grocery stores also offer a selection of quick food, like vegetables and fruits which are already washed and cut and individually packaged. Some even offer small submarine sandwiches with the condiments on the side. Thus at a supermarket, you get to choose a healthy meal as well as a bigger selection of condiments available of yogurts, fruits etc.

Tip 7.
Avoid mayonnaise if you can. Do you know that a mere tablespoon of mayonnaise can have as many as 100 calories! Incredible but true. Choose other options like a low fat mayonnaise or mustard instead for your sandwich.

Tip 8.
Drink alot! No, not wine or beer but water! So remember to keep water with you at all times. This way, you can easily avoid sugary drinks or drinks with a lot of caffeine. Keep bottled water in your car, or a gallon jug of water at the office with you. Added advantage is that water will also help you feel full if you drink a large glass before every snack or meal!
