Here are the main muscles that make up the shoulders and arms :

Shoulders

Deltoid Muscles

1. Deltoid Muscles
Three separate segments cover the shoulder. They run a few inches down the arm but the main muscle of the shoulder called anterior deltoid, help raises the arm to the front. The next muscle in the middle is the deltoid which raises the arm to the side. Finally the posterior deltoid which helps draws the arm backwards.

2. Rotators
Next, we have the small muscles of the rotator cuff. They control small movements of the upper arm and is made up of an internal rotator, external rotator and supraspinatus. Some of the actions that the muscles are used are lifting and throwing actions.

Arms

Biceps brachii

3. Biceps brachii
This is biggest muscles in the arms. The biceps is made up of a long head and a short head and it covers the front part of the upper arm. The long head muscle actually crosses the shoulder joint and works with the front deltoid to raise the arm to the front.

Triceps brachii

4. Triceps brachii
This is the part of the lower part of the upper arm area. The triceps consists of three sections - the long, lateral and medial heads. What do we use the triceps for? It is to straighten the arm at the elbow.

5. Brachialis
This is a muscle that lies between the upper arm bone and biceps. It helps the biceps to bend the elbow when the palm is facing sideways.

6. Forearm muscles
Now, the forearms consist of many tiny muscles called flexors and extensors. The largest forearm muscle is the brachioradialis that lies close to the elbow.
